Ears

Cocker ears should be shaved with a #10 blade unitl shave line is even with the muzzle. Trim the bottom of the ears to resemble that of a bell, curved and rounded in fullness at the bottom. Cocker ears tend to be very thick so be careful not to cut the end of the ear if you are going to have short ears. Using scissors, carefully trim close to the edge of the shaved portion on the ear.

Face and Head

The face can either be shaved or full, leaving pork chops on the cheeks. If you are going to shave the face use a reverse #10 blade starting with the inner ear flap shaving outward towards the nose. Shave the top of the nose starting with the corner of the eye therefore scooping them in the process.
The head can have a crown or it can be clean. If you want a crown shave only the top of the head from the front of the ears back towards the neck. Shape up remaining hair as if you were to do a teddy bear face, combing hair forward then cutting an arch across the brow line.

Body

The haircut for the sporting breeds including that of the cocker spaniel are the same as the cut for a west highland terrier (see terriers). The tail is shaved, the feet beveled. The only difference is that cocker spaniels will probably require a lot more demating, brushing, and combing.
